The portuguese toy industry in the 50's until the 70's was based in small familiar business . Bakelite , plastic and tin were the favoprite materials . In the 70's , Osul / Metosul was the first real industrial toy maker . Lusotoys and Vitesse passed away and today only Trofeu is still on the market .
In 1/ 60 scale only Ribeirinho , better " Fabrica de Pentes do Ribeirinho " , made two Opel models and a dozen of other models from , Porsche , Fiat , Ford , etc , all Siku copies . We don't know if they were authorized or non authorized copies or if Ribeirinho used refused casts . These toys are Siku copies , it easy to see and the first type they were really very much like Siku models with grey base , clear glazing , small weight glued to the plastic base and painted bumpers , hub caps and headlamps and I think they were inside grey cardboard trade boxes . Second series models , lost the weight , base is now black and without painted detail . I 've never saw a box for these models . The third series is similar but glazing is now colored , blue or dark grey . The cars I have of this third series were bought inside a blister with candles , as decoration for  birthday party cakes .
The other maker is AML , a small factory run by Armindo Moreira Lopes , specialised in tin toy . Models weren't perfect and were sold in saturday fairs
.

Pic 1 , on the right a Speedster , offered by " 24 Horas " newspaper , it is a standard Welly , blue with black interior and it is part of a collection that we could buy with the newspaper for one euro . Lots of american and european cars , Porsche , Chevrolet , etc . all Welly and packed in bags . On the left my Ribeirinho collection of 1953 Opel Olympia Rekord , 2 doors saloon and Caravan . In second plan a 2 doors saloon , first series , but someone painted it red and black with white wall tires . First plan red and yellow second series , orange with dark grey glazing and grey with blue glazing third series . As you can see always black plastic base and blac plastic wheels . On the left the Caravan light blue ( 2x ) and light green second series and yellow grey glazing third series . They aren't perfect but I remember how much I have played with these Opel and other models , Porsche 356 , Ford 12 M , VW , etc .

Pic 2 , on the left a better view of the Speedster . On the right a side view of what we called an " Opel " truck , 1.75 ton Blitz . Made by AML , all tin even wheels , this is really a very simple and cheap toy , sold without box , I don't remember if they were inside any kind of dealer box , but I don't think so . I have only two of the three models made , the tanker and an uncovered truck . The missing model is the catle truck . I have two normal trucks , red cabin and blue rear or green cabin and red rear always with silver base and wheels . The " Shell " tanker , it can also be at least Sacor , has red cabin with blue tanker with silver Shell . I know that some of you will no agree , but for me this truck will always be an Opel . Kids named the toys , Opel or Mercedes , etc , because in the village the Opel was more like it than the other trucks .

     Pic 3 , on t
he left a front view of the Opel Blitz 1.75 ton trucks . As you can see the red cabin trucks are almost mint while green have a bit of surface rust . Here in Albergaria it must be an Opel because other trucks were big Mercedes , Scania or MAN !
On the right the portuguese Altaya's collection " Panzer - Os Blindados Alemães da Segunda Guerra Mundial " . Nº 451 in my collection is # 31 , the Blitz Maultier ( Sd. Kfz. 3 ) , nº 425 is # 34 , the Blitz S 3 to 3,6-36S (Kfz305) and nº 455 is # 54 , the Blitz Panzerwerfer 42 ( Sd. Kfz. 4/1 ) . Normal Altaya models , these collections are sold all over Europe . The Blitz is well done , ghood body lines and decorations . The Blitz Panzerwerfer 42 ( Sd. Kfz. 4/1 ) is very well done . Packaging was the plastic box .
